13 things about Atkins low-carb diet. I’m well into my second week on the diet. Below is a list of things about the diet and my experience with it.

1. I’ve lost ten pounds. It’s all water weight but ten pounds is ten pounds.

2. I had to give up Mountain Dew. Pout.

3. You aren’t supposed to have caffeine but I have one cup of half the caffeine coffee a day.

4. You have to eat too much meat.

5. I miss fruit. Inductions Stage (the first two weeks) doesn’t allow fruit.

6. I usually do the Induction Stage longer than two weeks. You lose the most weight in this stage.

7. I have done this diet before, several times. Sometimes, I’ve had great results, other times I didn’t last a week.

8. When you first start the diet, you have no energy.

9. It involves a lot of cooking, therefore a lot of cleaning up – Urgh!

10. You need to take vitamin supplements with this diet especially potassium.

11. My favorite treat is sugar free, black cherry Jello.

12. I’m trying to lose weight before my vacation at the end of June.

13. It’s not so hard to follow if you stay home but it’s difficult for me if we go out.



I’m off to make my breakfast. I miss just being able to grab a muffin and go. Sigh! Hopefully, the end result will be worth it.

Tragedy at the Derby

Oaks Day, the day before the derby ended up a total wash. It poured all afternoon and the track was a muddy mess but still the races went on even if half the crowd left. Derby Day was clear and cool, much improved from the day before. Unfortunately, a perfect day for racing was forever marred by Eight Belles breaking both of her ankles during cool down after finishing second in the Derby.

Big Brown won in grand fashion and he deserves praise but the whole day was ruined for me when the Filly was euthanized on the track after the horrific accident.

It was just two years ago, when Derby winner Barbaro broke a leg while running in the Preakness. Since, it was only one leg they did all they could to save him but eight months after the accident he too was euthanized.

Growing up in Louisville, I've spent much time at the track but these incidents have certainly put a pall over horse racing for me.

My trip to the Dogwood Conference

I just returned from the Dogwood Writing Conference and I had a wonderful. It was hosted by the KYOWA chapter of RWA and they were friendly and gracious people. I plan to attend their event again next year.

The event took place at the lodge at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, which is in eastern Kentucky. The park is beautiful and the lodge is very nice. The dogwoods and redbuds are in bloom making for spectacular scenery. I didn’t have a lot of time to explore so next year I may go down a day early.

My husband, daughter and niece made the trip with me and hung out in the park and neighboring area while I attended the workshops. Unfortunately, we didn’t arrive in time to attend the workshop Friday night but I did have time for a little socializing. I met some very friendly people and chatted before I headed back to my room.

My daughter is thirteen and my niece is fourteen with very active imaginations enhanced by just watching Prom Night. So when the power when out at out 10pm they were convinced a stalker had cut the power lines and was about to slaughter the guests. Of course, we played along and encouraged them to a point. Needless to say, I was awake until 1am. They have managed to embellish the story and have enjoyed telling their friends about their night of horror.

I didn’t get much sleep but Saturday was still very enjoyable. After breakfast, Christine Witthohn of Book Cents Literary Agency gave a workshop on query letters. It was very informative, as I hate writing query letters. Next, I attended Raelene Gorlinsky’s workshop on genre and sex. She had a great little sheet on words NOT to use to describe private parts. I don’t understand why she didn’t like–pulse-pounding swamp of love and cum or one-eyed purple-headed yogurt slinger! LOL You should see the list. If you don’t know Raelene, she is the publisher and editor of Ellora’s Cave and she is very witty and entertaining.

Authors, Pamela Cable, Cathie Shaffer and Maddie James also had workshops. I couldn’t attend them all but I especially wanted to attend Maddie’s. I spoken with Maddie online many times and I was thrilled to meet her and listen to her editing tips.

The panel of editors and agents critiqued one page from anonymous works in progress. I enjoyed this and I have to say they were right on the money as far as I could tell.

The workshops were fun but I have to say the best part was meeting new and interesting people. Hopefully, many of them will be in attendance next year.

13 welcome signs that spring has sprung!

1. It's 55 degrees at 8:30 am
2. My hostas are sprouting everywhere.
3. The man next door is power washing his deck. (Something I need to do.)
4. Bunnies are out everywhere in the early morning. Must be mating season.
5. We've been grilling out at night which I love because there is less mess to clean up.
6. My daughter is strutting around in short shorts all the time. (Okay! I can't say this thrills me.)
7. The guy down the street mowed his grass yesterday without a shirt. (Sorry to say that didn't thrill me either.)
8. My dh emptied the lawn furniture and ornaments out of the garage last night.
9. My daughter has started asking when we will open the pool.
10. There is only 5 weeks left of school. (This doesn't thrill me except I won't have to get up early to get my daughter on the bus for school.)
11. It's the right temperature to open your windows. You don't need air or heat!
12. My dogs love to go outside in these temperatures. I think they'd stay out all day if I'd let them.
13. I have a tan. (I'll admit though that it's fake. I go to the tanning salon but you can't tell by looking.)

Excerpt:
He leaned forward. “You see an opportunity to meet a growing need?”

Damn. She wished he hadn’t mentioned a growing need. Her voice trembled as she continued, “A recent study says that fifty-one percent of American’s are overweight.”

Jake reached for a file on the edge of his desk. “Actually, the latest demographic is fifty-four percent but not all shapely women are overweight.”

That got her attention. “Are you already considering a new line?”

“I am. I’ve owned a majority of this company for six months now and in that time I’ve evaluated our strengths and weaknesses. I’m only thirty-five so I hope I’m not too old school to recognize a need for change.”

Nicole felt heat rise in her cheeks. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t insinuating you were old.”

“I’m not offended. I believe you are only a couple years younger.” He smirked. “I’m pleased that I have a designer with vision and initiative.”

“Thank you.” She replied quickly, on a deep breath. She could finally breathe. It was going better than she’d expected.

He fingered the corset she’d thrown on his desk. “This corset is a satin blend?”

“Satin-Lycra blend. It’s comfortable, yet controls,” she explained. “Comfort and control are important ingredients for a full-figured line.”

“What else have you designed, besides the thong, of course?”

“I have three panties, the Brazilian-cut, a hip-hugger, the thong and a brief.”

“No granny panties?” He winked.

“Never!” She pretended to gasp in horror. “Banish the thought. I’ve also finished designs for another corset, a bustier and some night clothes.”

“You’ve been busy. Have you had anyone model them?” His brows rose. “We need to test the comfort and control.”

Biting her lip, she hesitated. “We don’t have larger models. I made them in my size.”

Picking up the thong, his fingers traced the lacy edge. “You’ve modeled these?”

“I tried everything on to test the comfort and fit. Those don’t actually offer control but…” She hesitated.

“They’re sexy as hell.” His eyes ran over her and a shiver rode her spine. “Are you wearing one of your creations now?”

Nicole laughed nervously.

Jake grinned in a way that would wet any red-blooded woman’s panties. “You said you’d never charge me with harassment.”

She raised her chin. “I meant it.”

“What are you wearing?”

Her tongued felt glued to the top of her mouth and she swallowed. “I’m wearing a slimming corset with support for…”

“Support for large breasted women?” His gaze devoured her chest. She could almost believe he could see through her clothes.

“Yes.”

He crushed the thong in his hand. “What type of panty?”

“A ruffled Brazilian-cut,” she answered and was surprised how breathy her voice sounded.

“Damn,” he breathed the word as his eyes stripped her clothing from her body. “Can I talk you into modeling them for me?”

“Me? You want me to…?” She blinked at the thought.

“Yes.”

Nicole shifted under his intense gaze. “I’m not a model.”

“Did you model them in front of a mirror?”

“Well yes, I did.” But that was entirely different. There was no one there to see and no one to laugh if she looked ridiculous.

“Did you see how beautiful you looked?”

“I looked okay. I’ll never have a model’s figure but I looked fine.” She raised her chin.

“You say you want to celebrate full-figured women and that your line will compliment their figures. I believe you can but I don’t believe you do. For this to be a success you can’t doubt the line. You need to see and believe in the beauty of a full-figured woman.”

He seems approachable and he did inspire more than a few of her sexy designs. She knows she can’t compete with the thin, sexy models that grace the studio but she hopes her designs can compete with some of the best.

Jake Malone has wanted Nicole since he purchased Satin Seduction. When she comes to his office one afternoon to pitch a line of lingerie for full-figured females, he sees an opening. He’s interested in the line but more interested in her.

Nicole is hesitant to bare her rounded curves to her hottie boss but agrees to if he’ll strip to his briefs. While modeling her designs, their mutual attraction flares to life but Nicole knows better than to read anything into the encounter.

Making love with Nicole was more than he expected but still he feels her holding back. He knows the image she has of herself stands between them. He wants a future with Nicole so he must convince her that he finds her full-figure deliciously sexy.
How do you show a woman how beautiful you find them? Sometimes pictures speak louder than words especially naughty pictures. Cameras don’t lie and beauty is more than skin deep.

Posing for Jake’s pictures makes her nervous and most of the pictures are unbecoming at least to her critical eye. She isn’t sure what Jake’s motives are but his next stunt is a revelation. She horrified to realize Jake’s used a hidden camera to film them having sex. She’s even more stunned to see what it reveals. They weren’t having sex but making love and loves eyes soften every blemish.

This week I decided to list thirteen things that drive me crazy about doing my taxes.

1. Finding a new accountant. I had to get a new one this year and that’s never fun.
2. Going through the drawer full of receipts that I stuff in my file cabinet. This year I’m going for organization.
3. Trying to find receipts for things you know you purchased.
4. Adding up how much you actually spent on certain items. I’m never shopping again. LOL
5. Explaining to a new accountant exactly what I write. Accountants aren’t the most open minded.
6. Having to go to the accountant’s office several times because you keep forgetting things.
7. Going on the Internet and looking up tax deductions for writers. I can read for hours and still understand very little.
8. Being taxed double on my city taxes because I live and work in the city.
9. Paying someone to tell you that you owe money.
10. Seeing how much you actually owe.
11. Calling the IRS to ask a simple question and not understanding the answer. However, they promised to send you a booklet that will explain everything.
12. Receiving approximately 40 forms booklets and CD’s from the IRS that is supposed to make filing taxes easier. Now, I know why we pay so much.
13. Keeping records and logs. I’m not very organized but I promised to try harder this year.

At least, I’m done for another year.

Snow Day!

It's snowing here in KY and we are supposed to get up to 12 inches. I can't remember the last time I saw 12 inches (of snow that is). LOL

Maybe, we'll be snowed in and I can write for days. That'd be cool as long as we don't lose power.

It's just starting to fall and my daughter is thrilled. She wants to make snow angels.

Holly is starting over. Her ex-husband mortgaged the family ranch and she has to sell. Bear, Grey and Tara seem to be just what she’s looking for. They will buy the ranch and she can stay on. Burned by love, she’s afraid to trust anyone. Finding out your new friends are time-traveling warriors, and a witch doesn’t help.

With the patience of a warrior, Bear sets out to prove he is the man for her. If he has to, he will kill to prove it.

Excerpt:
He lifted his hand and brushed against her fingers. He half-turned to face her. Their eyes met and she read deep sadness in his dark eyes. “Gold-seeker hit me with rifle.”

“Oh my god. He could have killed you. Are you okay?” No wonder he was confused. A blow like this could have killed him.

“I am good.”

“You need to sit down on the couch and let me see the injury.”

Raising his brow, he smirked but complied. Pulling at the hem of her gown, Holly knelt next to him and placed the candle on the sofa table that ran behind the couch.

“Sit still and let me see. Oh no. You have a huge lump and a cut back here. How long ago did this happen?” The blood was dried and the cut appeared closed.

“I not sure.”

“You should see a doctor.”

“Warrior not see white man’s doctor.”

Furrowing her brow, Holly glared at the stubborn man. “Bear, head injuries can be dangerous.” She didn’t mention the fact that his confusion could be a sign of a more serious injury.

Gently, Holly caressed the injured area and Bear turned to face her. In their current position, his face was level with her chest and she felt his gaze through the thinness of her cotton gown. She’d long forgotten her state of dress and her breath hitched in her throat at his look. To her horror, she felt her nipples tighten and cream gather at the juncture of her thighs. She couldn’t remember the last time a man’s hungry gaze had turned her insides to mush.

Frozen in place, with her breasts inches from his nose, her heart pounded. Slowly he tilted his head and lifted his eyes to meet hers. “Little Fox, not worry about Bear.”
“O-okay, ” she stuttered.

His large, warm hand lifted to her elbow. The rough pad of his thumb caressed the tender underside of her arm before he lifted it from around him. “Little Fox not touch warrior unless she want to join with him.”

“Bear, I wasn’t trying to seduce you.”

His dark, penetrating eyes lowered to her pebbled breasts. She crossed her arms across her chest to hide the evidence of arousal. “I’m cold.”

He raised his head and she met his probing gaze. “White women do not join with savages.” His eyes filled with derision.

“I don’t have sex with men I just met regardless if they are white, red, black or purple.” She wondered at his references to savages. She supposed there was still prejudice against Native American’s in some parts of the country but surely he knew how physically devastating he was. Any woman would want him, any normal woman anyway.

Bear grunted as he stood and reached for a blanket off the back of the couch. “You sleep here white woman.” His tone was gruff and something inside her called out to him.

“Bear, please don’t be angry.” She laid her hand on his arm.

He shrugged his massive shoulders and sighed deeply. “I not angry at you.” He turned away. “Little Fox not responsible for way of white man.”

Week One

My first week as a stay at home full time write wasn’t what I expected. Monday was President’s Day so my daughter was off school and had a friend over…translate I got nothing done. Tuesday was my first day home alone. It took me a while to get into the right or write state of mind. However, Wednesday was a productive day.

Thursday was another story. Due to an ice storm, school was cancelled at 10:00 am. I ended up with four girls at my house all day. Friday started out slow. School was delayed two hours but I was back from the bus stop by 8:45 am and ready to chat. I had two scheduled chats for the day.

School called about 11:00am to say my daughter was sick. So, I was off to pick her up. I did get to chat some but most of the afternoon was spent waiting on her. She looked so pathetic though, I felt sorry for her. Saturday, I took her to the doctor. She has the flu. Thanks to some wonderful medicine, she seems much better. Not sure if she’ll go to school tomorrow or not. I’ll see how she feels in the morning. I figure by Tuesday, I’ll have the flu. That’s about how my luck goes. LOL

If I manage to stay well I should have Eye Stone finished this week. Then, I’m on to the sequel to Undercover Pleasure Droid.

For those of you that don’t know, I’ve retired from the day job to write full time. This is my first week at home and below are 13 great things about working from home.
They are in no particular order.

1. I can work in my pj’s.
2. I can work in the middle of the night or the middle of the day.
3. I get to watch my favorite Soap Opera. (The Bold and the Beautiful)
4. I can schedule doctor/dentist appointments without having to take time off from work.
5. The house is empty and quiet during the day. (more productive)
6. I can work late into the night since I don’t have to get up early for work.
7. I can attend all day chats and be home on release days…like tomorrow!
8. I have no one to answer to but myself.
9. Without a day job, I have more time for writing and hopefully, I’ll be more productive.
10. I don’t have to cage my Yorkie all day while I’m at work.
11. I’ll be home this summer when my daughter is off school for Summer Break.
12. I’m skipping the fast food restaurants for lunch and eating healthier.
13. I’m scheduling in an exercise session every day.

Full time writer

Well, I finished my last day of work and now, I'm a full time writer. Hope I don't run out of things to write about.

From what I've heard, I need to set a schedule. I'm thinking I'll sleep until 10am break at 1:30 to start watching the Soaps. Darn that won't work!

Guess, I'll have to treat writing like a real job but I will make time for daily exercise. I really can't afford to sit on my butt all day.

No TT but an anouncement!

Lately, I have been MIA on a lot of fronts but that is about to change.
As of February 15th, I will be a full time writer without a day job.
YAY!! I have been struggling recently to finish several projects at
work and keep up with my writing. It's become too much but thankfully
it's about to end.

As soon as I get settled into a new routine, I plan to be more active
as well as more productive.

Chilly Sunday!

It's a cold one today. The temperature fell to about 5 degrees last night and even my dogs didn't want to go outside. It's about 12 degrees this morning...still too cold for me. Thankfully, I don't have to go anywhere today. I plan to chill, pardon the pun, in front of the computer and TV today.

Hopefully, I'll see Tom Brady get another win. Yes! I'm a Brady fan. Why? Because he's friggin' HOT!

I usually pick my favorite sports stars by their looks not their skills but this time I got both!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I don't read or usually follow young adult books but I have to mention that my teenage daughter just finished Twilight and she loved it. We had to go out today and buy New Moon and Eclipse because she couldn't wait to read them.

I had to give a shout out for this book because I am so thrilled that it managed to snag my daughter's attention. Until recently, she only read when she had to for school. She had started reading the Clique Books and she likes those too. However, for her they don't compare to Twilight.

I didn't think she would ever find my love for reading but now I'm not sure. Of course, at the rate she is going, she'll finish the series by the end of the week. Hopefully, I'll be able to find another series she'll enjoy just as much.

Any recommendations?

It's hard to believe another year has gone by. This time last year I was anxiously awaiting my first release from Ellora's Cave. January 31st is my anniversary. It's been a fantastic year.

On January 31st I will host an anniversary party on the EC loop but I'll tell you more about that when it gets closer.

13 memories from this holiday some good some bad!

1. A good one- It was wonderful to see the family, many people that I haven’t seen in a long time. The cousin’s kids have grown so much and there were 3 new babies that I saw for the first time.
2. A bad one- The airport delays. We were lucky we only had an hour delay for fog.
3. Bad- Since it’s a short trip they use small planes. It was like a sardine can.
4. Good- Hanging out and relaxing with family.
5. Bad- They lost 2 of my 4 suitcases on the way home.
6. Good- Just watching my daughter enjoy herself.
7. Good- Spending Christmas with Nana for the first time since we moved to KY.
8. Bad- Leaving my dogs behind with my sister.
9. Good- All the delicious food.
10. Bad- How tight my clothes are now!
11. Good- Listening to all the stories from the relatives.
12. Bad- Sleeping in a different bed kills my back.
13. Good- It’s good to be home with my dh, daughter and puppies with beautiful memories to share. It would be better if they found my luggage

Back home

Well, I'm home safe and sound from my trip to Chicago. I wish I could say the same for my luggage. The airline lost two pieces somewhere! Just sent my dh to Walgreens because I don't have a toothbrush at the moment. Of course, if they don't find it in 5 DAYS they will ask for a list of lost items. Thankfully they lost it on the way home and not on the way there. At least I have other clothes. My dh and daughter are shopping for makeup and other essentials that we lost. It's nice to send them out to take care of it.

Other than that it wasn't too bad. The flight to Chicago was an hour late. I'd forgotten how cold it is in Chicago and I didn't take a heavy jacket.

The family stuff went pretty good. No fights. No bloodshed! It's all good! (I am married into an Italian family)

Though I spent Christmas day with Austrian relatives and ate Austrian food which was awesome.

If I get my luggage back I'll be happy and thankfully that it's all over for another year.

This weeks TT is a list of my thirteen favorite Christmas gifts. Over the years, I have received some wonderful presents and this is some of my favorites, in no particular order!

1. Christmas 1994, I discovered I was pregnant with my beautiful daughter. She is the best present I could ask for.
2. Christmas 2001, we bought Sassy, our miniature schnauzer.
3. Christmas 2006, we bought Ellie, our yorkie.
4. When I was young I received a baby doll, I named Susie. She was my favorite.
5. A Fort Apache set.
6. A pair of gold earrings, my husband gave me the first Christmas we were dating which would have been 1984.
7. A trip to Las Vegas in 1990, we actually when over New Years though.
8. A clay ornament my daughter made for me.
9. The last Christmas card my mom ever sent me.
10. The angel for the top of my tree. My dh bought it for me the first year we were married, 1988.
11. A necklace my daughter got out of a bubble gum machine and gave to me. It may be a little tacky but it’s precious.
12. The special time I send with loved ones every Christmas.
13. The look on my daughter’s face every Christmas morning.

In her quarters, Aurelia’s hands shook as she smoothed her hair. The Jibodi Roll was too formal a look. She didn’t want John to think she was trying to impress him. Tugging the pins out of her hair, she brushed the long riotous curls. “Am I making a mistake?” she asked her reflection. The redheaded image smiled and shook its head. “I knew you would agree with me.” She’d learned the hard way to count only on herself. She made her own decisions and her own mistakes.

“If you are finished talking to yourself, I thought you might want to know, a hovercraft from the UGT detention facility just landed.” Ro smirked.

Aurelia’s stomach dropped. “Sweet heavens.” He was here. She hadn’t really believed the United Galactic Territories would sell him.

“It’s not too late. I can send him away.”

But, it was too late, years too late. It was too late the first time Michel brought John home. He’d been twenty-six to her nineteen, a man in every since of the word. It was a shame it had come to this. She had never thought he’d join the resistance and turn on Michel or her.

Trembling legs carried her through her small craft. Standing at the open airlock, a blast of hot air stole her breath. She rarely landed on Mateo-Alpha, she detested the arid landscape but she’d agreed to meet the detention ship here. It was a two-man UGT detention hauler. She waved her arm and the gangway opened. A large, shirtless man filled the opening. Neuro-locks encased his wrists but his dark head had a high tilt as he descended the stairs. He didn’t look abused. There was no obvious bruising or scarring.

“Aurelia Giat?” the droid proceeding John asked.

“Yes. I have the documentation. Here’s the purchase and release agreement.” Her hands shook but she worked hard to control the tremble in her voice.

Silently, the droid took the documents from her and scanned the papers. “All seems to be in order. From this point on you are responsible for John Blaten, ex-commander of The Galliant of the Halian Federation.”

“I understand.” Did her voice sound as wobbly as it felt?

The droid handed the papers along with a small disc back to her. “This is the neuro-control key.”

She rolled up the papers. “Thank you.”

Without another word, the droid turned and marched back up the stairs. The moment she had dreaded had arrived. She was alone with John. Swallowing deeply, she turned to look at her possession. Sucking in a ragged breath, she met his gaze. She might quake internally but she’d be damned if she’d show it. Flat, black eyes stared at her from a stoic face. Pursing her lips, she deliberately raked her gaze over his near naked frame and her pussy slicked with desire.

Perspiration dotted his golden skin and it gleamed. A sprinkling of chest hair tapered to disappear beneath the Federation uniform pants he still wore. They appeared to be a size too big as they rode low on his lean hips exposing well-defined abs. Under the loose fitting pants laid the evidence of his arousal.
Her mouth was suddenly dry. Aurelia closed her eyes as her knees nearly gave out. Oh, lord. He’s mine to do with, as I will. “Looks like you’re happy to see me.”

John’s expressionless gaze ran over her. “Or maybe I’m excited to be free.”

New release date!

Just got word that my first Changeling Press release, Adventures in Space, Owned has a new release date of December 21st!

I'm so excited to see how this one does.

I did it!

Well, I bit the bullet and went to the mall over the weekend. I cheated by getting there when they opened and beating the crowd. Actually, it wasn't too bad. It was just starting to fill up when we left at about 11:00am.

I made the mistake of taking my daughter with me so I bought very little for anyone but her. Lord, that girl can shop.

We met my sister and my niece out there so it was fun. They wouldn't let me stop at the bookstore though. They said they'd never get me out of there. LOL

I did get my daughter a new jacket and it's a good thing because it's turned cold. Urgh! I hate cold! Makes me want to stay in bed.
