TT #17

13 things I’ve learned about witchcraft and Wiccan’s during research. (This is subjective and there are many variations of redes, laws and practices.)

1. The Wiccan Rede:
An it harm none, do what ye will.

2. The Threefold Law.
"Mind the Threefold Law you should,
Three times bad and three times good."

The eight Sabbats:
3. Samhain
4. Winter Solstice
5. Imbolc
6. Vernal Equinox
7. Beltane
8. Summer Solstice
9. Lammas
10. Fall Equinox

11. Pantacle or pentagram: a five-pointed star which is just a symbol of five elements of nature, earth, water, air, fire and spirit.

12. WARLOCK: Warlock is sometimes wrongly used these days used as the term for male witches. But men who practice witchcraft as a religion generally prefer to be referred to as witches or Wicca’s. Warlock comes from the old English "wer loga" and means enemy, traitor, liar, etc. The word Warlock became associated with one who had made a pact with the devil.

13. Cauldron: The witch’s cauldron is a tool of witches. The Cauldron is usually made of iron. In the witch lore of middle ages the cauldron was where poisons, ointments and philters were brewed. Neo-Pagan witches still use the cauldron burning fies and incense in rituals.

Actually most Wiccans, kitchen witches, and other flavor of witchcraft don't use the word warlock at all. :)

Tempest,
You are correct they don't but you still see it used in alot of books.

I don't use it in my writings but I've been emailed and told that a male witch is a warlock because it is commonly believed to be true.

Lorelei,
I enjoy research especially anything to do with the paranormal.

I think Wicca is a cool religion. I'm not about to convert or anything, but I'm certainly intrigued enough to learn more. Bring it on, LA!

And you've been lurking at my place? I didn't know that; thanks!! Feel free to say hi every now and then (even a comment that says, "Hi, Susan!" and nothing else will get answered!)

Happy writing, babe.

I'd known that a warlock wasn't a male witch, but I didn't know the devil connection.

I've also been using the threefold law a little differently.

Thanks.

Hi Susan,
I'll make a point of saying hi occasionally.

Lisa,
I think like most religions there are many interpretations.
