Back from Chicago

Morning, all,
Just got back from a week in Chicago and I’m glad to be home. Don’t get me wrong, I love the city but I was ready for the quiet life again. We took my almost fourteen y/o daughter and my fifteen y/o niece with us and they had a blast. They absolutely loved Michigan Ave. What teenage girl doesn’t want to shop all day? We had plans to go to zoos, museums, the aquarium but they just wanted to shop. We did manage to go to The Hancock Observatory and Navy Pier. The view was fabulous.

My dh is from the suburbs of Chicago so I’ve been in Chicago before so we left this trip up to the girls. They thoroughly enjoyed the trip and so did we. My dh didn’t complain once about all the shopping. He’s so sweet!

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

Before school starts, we are taking a few days and going to Chicago. My DH was born in the suburbs and his mother and sister still live there. Below I am listing 13 things to do in Chicago. I have been to most of these places already but my daughter doesn’t remember most of them. We won’t get to see them all this trip but we will visit a few.

2. Hancock Observatory
3. Navy Pier

10. Buckingham Fountain
11. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament
12. North Ave. Beach
13. Soldier Field (The Bears)

13 things about Atkins low-carb diet. I’m well into my second week on the diet. Below is a list of things about the diet and my experience with it.

1. I’ve lost ten pounds. It’s all water weight but ten pounds is ten pounds.

2. I had to give up Mountain Dew. Pout.

3. You aren’t supposed to have caffeine but I have one cup of half the caffeine coffee a day.

4. You have to eat too much meat.

5. I miss fruit. Inductions Stage (the first two weeks) doesn’t allow fruit.

6. I usually do the Induction Stage longer than two weeks. You lose the most weight in this stage.

7. I have done this diet before, several times. Sometimes, I’ve had great results, other times I didn’t last a week.

8. When you first start the diet, you have no energy.

9. It involves a lot of cooking, therefore a lot of cleaning up – Urgh!

10. You need to take vitamin supplements with this diet especially potassium.

11. My favorite treat is sugar free, black cherry Jello.

12. I’m trying to lose weight before my vacation at the end of June.

13. It’s not so hard to follow if you stay home but it’s difficult for me if we go out.

I’m off to make my breakfast. I miss just being able to grab a muffin and go. Sigh! Hopefully, the end result will be worth it.

Tragedy at the Derby

Oaks Day, the day before the derby ended up a total wash. It poured all afternoon and the track was a muddy mess but still the races went on even if half the crowd left. Derby Day was clear and cool, much improved from the day before. Unfortunately, a perfect day for racing was forever marred by Eight Belles breaking both of her ankles during cool down after finishing second in the Derby.

Big Brown won in grand fashion and he deserves praise but the whole day was ruined for me when the Filly was euthanized on the track after the horrific accident.

It was just two years ago, when Derby winner Barbaro broke a leg while running in the Preakness. Since, it was only one leg they did all they could to save him but eight months after the accident he too was euthanized.

Growing up in Louisville, I've spent much time at the track but these incidents have certainly put a pall over horse racing for me.

My winner fron CJ's Bash!

Amelia Richard is my winner from CJ’s bash. The prize is a free download of The Last Warrior.

I appreciate everyone that entered. It was a great day and don’t forget CJ’s bash will continue today. I won’t be in attendance since today is Derby day in Louisville.

Have an awesome day!
