TT #56

In these tough economic times, everyone is cutting back. Below is a list of 13 things that I want to have and how I’ve made changes to keep them. I might not need all of these things but I’m not giving them up yet.

1. My house. I have cut out paying additional money toward the principal balance but I have to make my regular payment.
2. Electricity. During the recent windstorm, we lived with electricity for three days and believe me it’s no fun. However, we have cut back. We regulate the thermostat and open windows when we can. We lowered the setting on the water heater. I am more conscience of turned on lights, TVs, and etc.
3. Car/Gasoline. I need my vehicle to get around but I have cut back unnecessary trips. The prices of gasoline have dropped but there is still no need to waste gas.
4. The Internet. This is a must have for me. It is how I make a living.
5. Cable Television. This is a must have for my husband and daughter. I have a few shows I like but they are on basic cable and I could easily cut back to that. They however don’t agree. I did cut out a few movie channels.
6. Books! This may seem high on the list but for me it is a necessity. I make a living by writing (although that may be in jeopardy if the economy doesn’t turn around) and I love to read. I might not buy as many books as I once did but I still buy them.
7. Food. This is certainly a necessity though I could skip a few meals. LOL We have cut back on eating out. I’ve been cooking more and we eat more leftovers than we used to. It reminds me of growing up. We rarely ate out and my mom had dishes she made from leftovers. Mashed potatoes were turned into potato cakes. Veggies and meats were used in soups and stews.
8. Shopping! I used to see something I thought was cute and buy it regardless of need. Now, I think, do I really need it?
9. Cell Phones! Truly, I can do without mine. I rarely use it but my DH and daughter use theirs all the time. My daughter has unlimited texting and that is what she uses the most. I have cut the minutes back a bit. I think I saved ten dollars a month. Yippee!
10. I make sure all my bills are paid on time so we don’t get extra charges.
11. I don’t use credit cards. If I don’t have the money, I don’t buy it. (I do use debit cards and Paypal).
12. I get money off my debit card at my bank only. I don’t want those extra bank charges.
13. I haven’t planned a big vacation for next year. I do have a couple of conferences I plan to attend and we’ll see from there. I’m sure we’ll do something but it might be something close to home.

Hey Everyone,

FYI, I am having my surgery tomorrow, October 1st so I will be unavailable for a couple of days. I will check emails as soon as possible and I’ll post as soon as I feel well enough.

It figures that the weather is turning beautiful just as I’m about to be confined. Hope you all have great weather and a chance to enjoy it.

I still have to post my October Newsletter tonight on my site. After that, if I have the time, I'll post something yummy for anyone who stops by to see.

Talk to you soon,
Laura

TT #53

Today’s TT was inspired by a three-day power outage. The remnants of Ike blew through Kentucky on Sunday causing massive power outages and much damage to trees and roofs.

What did I discover during my three-day blackout? What did I miss?

1. I am addicted to the Internet. I thought I’d go crazy.
2. Candlelight is only romantic for about an hour then it sucks.
3. It’s difficult to read by candlelight.
4. I would never make it as a writer if I had to use pen and paper.
5. It wasn’t extremely warm but I missed my AC and ceiling fans.
6. Moonlight is a wonderful thing.
7. A house without power is extremely quiet.
8. The power went out before the Nascar race last Sunday so I listened to it on the radio. I don’t like listening to sporting events.
9. When the power go out people quickly buy up all the ice. It took my husband hours to find ice. I have to have cold Mountain Dew.
10. My dh is addicted to TV and without it he gets nasty.
11. My daughter wanted to live at Panera Bread where there was a WiFi connection and a place to charge her cell. I am not fond of crowds and quickly checked my emails and left to her dismay.
12. When there is no light my body quickly decides it’s bedtime, even if it’s only 8:30pm.
13. Fast food is wonderful as a treat. Eating it two times a day for several days is nauseating.

Thankfully, my power came back yesterday afternoon and I feel human again.

Aftermath of Ike

Hey,
The aftermath of Ike roared through Kentucky and made a huge mess. I'm without power and it looks like it may be out for 7-14 days! Yikes!

I'm at my sister's house right now and I'll do my best to check email when I can. My Insight email address laday @ insightbb.com is out because our cable system is out. Don't know when I'll be able to access that account.

If you need to reach me email:
la.daywrites @ yahoo.com (no spaces)

Take care all!

No TT today!

I didn't prepare a TT for today and I'm about to head out to donate blood. Shortly after 911, some co-workers and I answered the call for blood. Since then, it has turned into a tradition to donate on September 11th. This is one small way that I chose to honor the day.

Fall TV Season

September is around the corner which means the 2008 TV season begins! I’m still sad that Moonlight will not return but I’m looking forward to new episodes of Criminal Minds, Bones & CSI. Unfortunately, I believe CSI is losing Warrick on the first episode and I heard Gil is leaving too. I’m not sure if I’ll continue watching after they both exit.

I haven’t looked into many of the new shows but The Ex List and Eleventh Hour look interesting.

What shows are you all looking forward to seeing?

What new shows look interesting?

Lost Boys

I rented and watched Lost Boys, The Tribe, tonight. I enjoyed it. I’m a huge fan of the original, The Lost Boys. This one wasn’t as good but I still liked it. Corey Feldman is in this one too. Also, Angus Sutherland is the lead vampire. For those of you that remember The Lost Boys with Keifer Sutherland, Angus is his younger brother.

Reading is my passion!

If you set aside my passion for my family and my passion for writing, you have my passion for reading. I can’t remember how old I was when I discovered my passion for reading but it’s safe to say it was my first passion. I remember sneaking off with my mother’s romance novels and reading them. This was in the early 1970’s so they were mild. However, when my mother found out she wasn’t pleased. I’d have to say though that those early romance set me on the course I live today.

In my teens, I began reading Harlequin type books and then I discovered historicals. As long as it’s romance, I’ll read it. Although, these days I prefer paranormal and sci-fi erotic romance, I still read the occasional Harlequin.

My favorite author of all-times is Diana Palmer. I love her Long, Tall, Texan Series. I own almost all of her books and I often reread them.

Reading is my passion and it has gotten my through some rough times in my life. I can only hope that my stories have as profound affect on someone as books have had on my life.

Whatever passion inspires you enjoy it, live it.

Have a great weekend. I plan to enjoy a new book and a few old ones too.

TT 51

The Kentucky State Fair is in town and I thought I'd post about the things I enjoy at the fair.

1. People watching. Sitting around watching people can be very entertaining.
2. The music tents. Some of the performers are awesome.
3. The huge sow and the baby pigs. I love the baby pigs.
4. Petting the bunnies. Their fur is so soft.
5. Cool hand-made jewelry
6. The native crafts
7. The rides
8. Playing the games. You know they cheat but you can't stop playing.
9. The food-Elephant Ears
10. Corn on the cob cooked in the husk with tons of butter
11. Watching my hubby glare at the boys eyeing our daughter. (20 years ago he used to glare at them watching me. Where did the time go?)
12. Horse shows. I like the miniature horse shows.
13. Finding your car after a long, hot day and sitting down in the air conditioner. Your feet hurt, your shoes are sticky, you're hotter than hell. You had fun.
